Spud Smart Editor Wins Canadian Ag Journalism Award

Spud Smart Editor Ashley Robinson has won silver in the current affairs – feature category at the Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation (CFWF) awards for the story “P.E.I. Potato Growers Face Piles of Potato Wart Problems”.

The 2023 CFWF Awards Ceremony was held on Oct. 5, 2023, as a virtual stand alone event. Gold, silver and bronze awards were presented in 14 regular categories. A total of
47 awards were presented with winners receiving cheques of $125, $100 and
$75 for gold, silver and bronze respectively.

Winners were chosen by 16 judges from across Canada, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom. A release on the awards noted these judges included journalists, photographers, professors, farmers and communicators from different media and publications, and a mix of agricultural and non-agricultural backgrounds.

Spud Smart‘s sister publication Germination placed silver in the communications – short category for the story “How Do We Responsibly Introduce Seeds Containing Generic Novel Traits?”.

CFWF represents almost 350 English-speaking agricultural journalists, broadcasters and communicators from across Canada through six regional associations in Atlantic Canada, Eastern Canada, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
