The Ontario Potato Research Open House is happening on Aug. 17 at the Elora Research Station, a July 26 emailed announcement said. The open house will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. rain or shine.
Chipping, fresh market and french fry types will be on display, including elite selections from the Agriculture and Agri-Food’s Canada National Potato Breeding Program, and promising lines from industry seed programs, the University of Wisconsin and more, the announcement said.
Researchers from the University of Guelph will be on hand to discuss their work including:
- New Variety trials — Vanessa Currie
- Potato Early Dying — Griffin Bailey
- Potato Starch — Ian Tetlow and Victoria Butler
- Colorado Potato Beetle — Angela Gradish and Graham Ansell
There will be a picnic lunch provided in the field. Attendees are asked to drive directly to the plots in the own vehicle with onsite parking available. Visitors will be asked to provide contact information and if sick are asked to say home.
