A Swedish brewery has crafted the most expensive potato chip in the world: $56 for a set of five — $11.20 apiece.
“We felt that we were missing a snack of the same status to serve with [our beer]. A first-class beer deserves a first-class snack, and this is why we made a major effort to produce the world’s most exclusive potato chips,” St. Erik’s brand manager Marcus Friari said.
The chips were made in partnership with the Swedish National Culinary Team as a project to create “the world’s most exclusive chip.”
The chips are made from Ammarnäs potatoes which are hand-harvested from the hillside town bearing their name. The chips come in five flavors: Matsutsake mushrooms, truffle seaweed, crown dill, Leksand onions which are grown only in the eponymous Swedish town, and India Pale Ale.
So far, only 100 boxes of the five-chip set have been made, and quickly sold out, with proceeds going to charity, the brewery said.
