Alberta Credit Unions Launch Women in Ag Grant

The following piece is from our sister publication, the Alberta Seed Guide.

Credit Unions of Alberta has launched a grant to support Alberta women working in agriculture, a June 22 news release said. The grant, developed in partnership with connectFirst credit union, provides an opportunity for two Alberta-based women who currently, or plan to, work in ag to receive $10,000 in funding.

Credit unions understand the value of agriculture to Alberta’s economy and to the communities they operate in,” Matea Maric, director of innovation and government relations at Alberta Central, said in the release. “We also know how hard it is to build or grow an ag business, especially for women, so this grant can help women working in ag in a tangible way.”

The Women in Ag grant represents a collaborative effort between Credit Unions of Alberta and connectFirst credit union, the release noted. Applicants must explore the issues facing women in agriculture today and how their current or proposed business will support the ag industry of the future to be considered for one of two $10,000 grants. The deadline to apply is July 5, when applications will be reviewed by two ag business experts from the credit union system who will select the two recipients. For more information on the grant visit the Women in Ag Grant website.
