The Manitoba potato harvest is complete in some parts of the province with over 95 per cent of spuds harvested, the Oct. 13 provincial potato report from Manitoba Agriculture’s Vikram Bisht said.
“Due to better than budgeted yields, some farms have decided to not harvest some acres, and may total around 800 acres,” Bisht said in the report.
Harvest for processing direct-from-field is still ongoing for the ninth week, the report noted. Individual farms harvest progress is ranging from nearly 75 to 100 per cent done.
Rains did interrupt or slow down harvest. Rainfall ranged from 16.4 to 52.8 mm in potato growing areas, the report said. Daytime temperatures have ranged from 16.7 to 24.5 C, with overnight from -3.4 to 0.6 C.
“The weather forecast for the coming week shows rain or drizzle around Oct 18. Overnight freezing temperatures are forecast from Oct 13-15 but may not be severe,” the report said.
