Fionn’s Winnipeg was voted by Winnipeggers as the Potahto Week 2020 champion, beating out a record 117 other restaurants during the two-week contest, Peak of the Market says in a release.
Fionn’s winning creation was called rover bites. It featured stuffed bits of buttermilk mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, jalepenos, red peppers and red onions, which were then fried golden brown and served with a sweet chilli sauce.
The contest ran from Feb. 21 to March 1. Notable runner-ups include D-Jay’s Restaurants savoury baked potahto and steak pie, Helios Resturant’s Zeus poutine, Oh Doughnuts’ spudnut, and Scout: Coffee + Tea’s salted caramel mashed potahto brownie.
With 117 entrants this year, Potahto Week 2020 was the largest ever. Started in 2018, Potahto Week aims to promote the numerous health attributes of Manitoba potatoes by encouraging Winnipegers to try new dishes and see how versatile potatoes are, the release says. Peak of the Market is looking forward to continuing to grow this event in 2021.
