Top Killing of Ontario Spud Crops Has Started

-

Top killing of Ontario potato crops showing signs of maturity has began, a July 11 email update from Eugenia Banks said. Two fresh market fields in the Delhi, Ont. area were top-killed on July 10.

Banks noted that she had recently talked to a processing grower from southwestern Ontario who said they planned to start digging their chipping crop in about three weeks.

“Discussing the 2023 crop with two growers, we agreed many early potato fields are a week ahead as compared to the 2022 crop. Good growing conditions that include enough water and not warm nights push the crop nicely,” Banks said.
