McCain Foods, Smart Electric, Mid-Plains Implements in partnership with the Carberry Fair Potato Truck Pull, will be hosting a free fry day community event to raise funds for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation while simultaneously supporting Canadian potato farmers, a news release on June 12 from McCain says.
The free fry day will take place on Friday, June 19 with nearly 7,500 bags of french fry potato products, supplied by McCain Foods, given away at locations in Winkler, Carmen, Portage la Prairie and Carberry.
“With Manitoba potato farmers impacted by the shutdown of the foodservice and hospitality sectors and the recent news about the cancellation of the Carberry Potato Truck Pull, we felt there was an opportunity to rally the ag community and the general public around both of these causes,” Eric Durand, plant manager from McCain Foods Carberry, says in the release.
Due to ongoing concern regarding COVID-19 the Carberry Fair Potato Truck Pull had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s annual charity event, the release notes. The potato truck pull has been one of the largest fundraising events in Manitoba for paediatric and adult cancer research at CancerCare Manitoba
To participate in the free fry day giveaway, guests can stop by locations in Winkler, Carmen, Portage la Prairie and Carberry during the designated distribution time for their community. Each vehicle will receive two bags of McCain french fry potato products (4.5 Lbs. McCain Dipn’ Wedges and 3.5 Lbs. Potato Patties) through curbside contactless pickup. Full event details and distribution times can be found on the event page.
