Robert Irving, who founded Cavendish Farms, was inducted into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame (CAHF) on Nov. 4, 2023 in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
In a news release from CAHF it noted Irving’s agricultural legacy began when he established Cavendish Farms in 1980, a frozen food plant in Prince Edward Island that created a local opportunity for processing and value-added agriculture. Cavendish Farms is now the fourth largest producer of frozen french fry products in North America.
“P.E.I. Potato Farmers are very proud of the relationship we have with Mr. Irving and are grateful for his commitment, passion and dedication to the PEI potato industry and our Island communities,” John Visser, chair of the P.E.I. Potato Board, said in a release from the organization.
Irving is also the head of Cavendish Ag Services, which is an agricultural inputs and services company the release said. Irving lives in Dieppe, N.B. and was nominated by Potato Growers of Alberta.
Irving was one of seven inductees for the 2023 class which also included Garnet Altwasser, John Bragg, Rory Francis, Marcel Groleau, Ron Helwer and Ray Robertson.
“This year’s inductees come from across the country and across a wide array of sectors of the Canadian agricultural landscape, and we are so excited to welcome them into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame,” Ted Menzies, CAHF president, said in the CAHF release. “These Canadian agricultural ambassadors have made lifelong contributions at the farm, regional, national and international level that support the long-term sustainability and success of our industry.”
