As some of you may have noticed from the front cover of this issue and our social media accounts, we’re bringing back the Canadian Spud Congress for a second year! We had such a great time connecting with everyone last year online and enjoyed being able to share top-notch presentations and information. It was a highlight of our lockdown winters.

Of course, this year is different, as across Canada some provinces are facing stricter COVID-19 restrictions than others. While some potato industry events are moving on in-person, others have been cancelled and some have switched to an altogether virtual format. With the uncertainty across the industry, we felt we needed a way to bring everyone together again.

On March 22 and 23, we invite you to join us virtually for two FREE fun-filled days of learning and connecting. Sessions will air live between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. CDT daily. These sessions will cover a range of topics from markets to agronomic issues to ways growers across the country are innovating on their farms. We’re also bringing back the Spud Shed so we can meet and talk face-to-face, and the tradeshow ‘floor’ will be filled with companies who are ready to share information about their services with you.

We have learned from last year and are making a few changes to Spud Smart over the next few months to accommodate the Canadian Spud Congress. In early March you’ll be mailed a special edition of Spud Smart focused on the Congress — use this as your show guide. It’ll include the tentative schedule, information on sessions and presenters, tips and tricks on how to use the virtual platform and lots of other important information.

Following the Congress our editorial team will be working hard to write stories about each session from the show. We will then be compiling all these stories, along with the spring issue stories you’d expect, in a special Spud Smart digital edition of the spring issue. This will be going live online in mid-April and arrive in your email inboxes. And you’ll want to keep a close eye on our website following the Congress as we’ll be releasing lots of amazing content.

With these changes to our 2022 production schedule, we’re thrilled to bring you even more content this year. Our goal at Spud Smart is always to provide you our loyal readers with access to top-notch information. The Canadian Spud Congress is part of this ongoing goal, and we can’t wait to share it with you again this year!

So please register now and join us on March 22 and 23. I can’t wait to share what we have planned and visit with you in the Spud Shed. I love talking to you guys and getting ideas for future stories for Spud Smart. So, see you then!
