Though the summer is winding towards a close, several field days are still ahead.

Ontario Potato Field Day

Ontario Potato will be hosting a Field Day Thursday, Aug. 22, starting at 3 pm. The event will include displays of new, innovative potato equipment as well as new processing and table varieties. It will also include a trade show and 5:30 pm BBQ sponsored by Syngenta. All are welcome. Location: 5900 Cty Rd 10, Alliston

BC Demonstration Field Days

Delta, BC: Aug. 16
The BC Potato and Vegetable Growers’ Association is hosting a Demonstration Field Day on Optimizing Water and Nutrients in Potatoes on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024. The drop-in field day will focus on soil moisture monitoring, as well as tissue sampling to improve nutrient management and irrigation programs in potatoes. The field day offers a hands-on, in-person opportunity to learn about how soil moisture sensors can help optimize water usage and enhance crop health, and to observe the potential benefits of a solid set irrigation system and split nitrogen applications on crop performance. It will also feature an overview of real-time nutrient plant tissue sampling using Picketa Systems. E.S. Cropconsult Ltd. and Peak HydroMet Solutions will be showcasing the tools at Lundstrum Farms.

When: Drop-in anytime between 11 am and 1 pm, rain or shine.

Where: 6166 34b Ave, Delta, BC. See road signs for parking.

Bonus details: Pizza and beverages will be provided. Participants will be entered into a draw to win a free tissue analysis using Picketa Systems.

Pemberton, BC: Sept. 3

Farmers are invited to hear about on-farm demonstration research projects underway in Pemberton, including:

  1. Pemberton’s low soil pH has been associated with poor phosphorus availability to plants. Hear several approaches to potentially tackle this issue.
  2. How soil moisture monitoring and tissue sampling can improve nutrient management and irrigation programs in potatoes.
  3. Grower updates from multi-year demonstration trials looking at no-till practices in mixed vegetable operation and interseeding cover crops in broccoli beds.

When: Tuesday Sept. 3 from 4 – 6 pm.

Where: Shaw Creek Farm, 8971 Pemberton Meadows Rd, Pemberton, BC.
