Islanders Invited to Fill Their Boots…with Potatoes

-

Two P.E.I potato farms are joining forces once again for the fourth annual Fill Your Boots event, inviting locals to bring a bucket, bag, boot, or any creative storage option to fill with as many potatoes as they can carry.

Fill Your Boots founders G. Visser and Sons in Orwell have partnered with Monaghan Farms in Norboro, with support from the PEI Potato Board to dole out free potatoes, but also foster engagement between Islanders and local farmers, offering insights into the intricacies of agricultural life.

“We are thrilled to host ‘Fill Your Boots’ again this year,” says Randy Visser from G. Visser and Sons. “This event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our fellow Islanders over a shared passion for potatoes. It promises to be an enriching experience where everyone can learn about agriculture, take home delicious P.E.I. potatoes, and contribute to our local food banks.”

Although the potatoes are free, the farms are asking that attendees consider bringing a donation for the local food bank to support those in need in the community. Since 2022, the event has welcomed over 7,500 visitors, resulting in the gathering of approximately 250,000 pounds of potatoes and raising $17,000 for local food banks.

This year’s Fill Your Boots will take place March 1 from 9 am to 12 pm. The participating farms and their locations are:

  • G. Visser and Sons – 6346 Trans-Canada Hwy, Orwell Cove
  • Monaghan Farms – 23402 Rte 2, Norboro
