About the Consultation

Since Nov. 5, 2024, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has been conducting a final consultation intended to gather insights on the National Potato Wart Response Plan. This draft plan integrates recommendations from previous consultations and the recent International Advisory Panel report. It aims to replace the existing Potato Wart Domestic Long Term Management Plan with updated strategies that address the complexities of managing potato wart.

Key Features of the Proposed Plan:

  • Introduction of a potato wart “viability confirmation” status.
  • Establishment of a new “field of concern” classification.
  • Enhanced strategies based on extensive stakeholder feedback.
