This is the time of year when we gather with loved ones, plan our holiday meals and look for ways to give back to our communities. This is mirrored in our plans for this season as well. We are focusing on collaboration and connection, finding ways to ensure every family cook mashes the right potato, and ensuring we lend a hand to those who might face challenges putting food on their tables.
We’re bringing our HZPC team together with the Culinary Council at the Spud Lab at Potatoes USA in Denver. This is a phenomenal facility with a top-notch test kitchen open for use by anyone in the industry, whether you’re from Canada or the U.S.
Just like a family gathering, there’s always a mix of anticipation and curiosity about how everyone will mesh, but we are united by a shared love for potatoes and our industry. I know the results will be incredible.
The Culinary Council is a group of 12 culinary innovators who represent everything from five-star chefs to large university dining programs, hospitals, and industry consultants. This council meets annually to brainstorm, ideate, and, quite frankly, geek out about potatoes. The ideas that emerge from these gatherings don’t just stay in the room. They ripple out to culinary teams, communities, and beyond, changing the way people think about and use potatoes.
These efforts align with Potato Glory’s mission to help differentiate potatoes. We know as industry insiders that potatoes all have their own flavour and texture. We can help end users understand that to maximize potato usage and production, bolstering the industry. Everyone has a favourite beer, favourite coffee, and they know which apple they want for making pie and which they want to eat fresh. If we give consumers that same opportunity with potatoes, they will know which variety to select whether they’re mashing, baking, or creating a new recipe.
As I mentioned last month, we are also going to show our thanks to the community by putting meals together for those facing food insecurity. While we couldn’t make mashed potatoes work logistically, we’ll be whipping up mac and cheese to feed those in need-a project that honours the spirit of generosity and teamwork that defines our industry.
I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. I feel truly blessed to be part of this industry, and I’m looking forward to gathering with you in the New Year at some of the conferences and events.
